There is no doubt: Christmas in Spain is Alicante. And, if we had to define Christmas in our country with the name of a city in the territory, that would undoubtedly be Alicante.
During the coming dates the province of Alicante will become the major supplier of three of the most representative sectors of Christmas in Spain; toys, nougat and chocolates and grapes to say goodbye to the year.
Toys
The Spanish toy factory with the company ‘Famosa’ as the head of the line-up, is located in the province of Alicante, in the region of Foia de Castalla (Hoya de Castalla), in the municipalities of Ibi and Onil. An industry with a historical leadership, that of the Valencian Community, which in recent years has been consolidated in sales, exceeding the figure of 600 million euros, which represents approximately 40% of the total Spanish toy sector. Undoubtedly, a sector that confirms its recovery to pre-crisis figures, and whose epicenter is located in Alicante.
Nougats and Chocolates
To talk about Christmas is to talk about Jijona nougat, a product that thanks to artisans and entrepreneurs is exported all over the world. This year, sales are expected to increase by 4%, following the upward trend of recent years. In addition, the production of chocolates in the province has placed Alicante as the main producer of this sweet in Spain and one of the leaders in Europe, since between Xixona and La Vila Joiosa are manufactured 3o million kilos of chocolate a year. We can already say that; ‘Alicante and the chocolate factory… and nougat’.
Table Grape
The P.D.O. Vinalopó Bagged Table Grape, whose system provides the cluster of a bag to protect the skin of the grape that will be much thinner than any other, reaches its peak to say goodbye to the year with the 12 lucky grapes. In this tradition of more than a century and that so many fun moments and celebration has given us and continues to give us, the land of Alicante also participates in millions of Spanish homes. Oh! And if you want to try the jam version, do not miss our muscat grape jam!
Undoubtedly, three of the most important sectors for the GDP of the Valencian Community and that at Christmas time reach their peak entering millions of Spanish homes.
So, if you are one of those who think that Alicante is only sun and beach, you already have one more reason to expand the concept.
