If there is something that is happening in the world of wine in recent years, it is the emergence of Alicante wines at national and international level, a very particular region of southeastern Spain that drinks from an ancient tradition, a unique and historical heritage and varieties and elaborations that has resulted, in the last decade, that the whole world has put the focus on the oldest Designation of Origin in the world; the DOP Alicante.
The latest publication to join this recognition has been the prestigious American magazine ‘Wine Enthusiast’, which dedicates an article to the Alicante region. In the report, the long history of the region associated with the world of wine, the fact of being the first Designation of Origin in the world, its artisan wineries, its wines and its individuality as an area. It also highlights the variety of organic wines and its commitment to sustainability.
The article talks about Alicante as ‘the hidden jewel of Spain’ with its established grape varieties, such as Monastrell and Muscat of Alexandria, but also the role being played by the recovery of other varieties such as Giró, Valencí, Forcallat or Alicante Bouschet.
