Winery and Winemaking
 

Luis XIV Anforas (Amphora) is a local red wine from La Canyada town in the mountain of Alicante.

The vineyards are from 40 to 60 years old and very low production per vineyard. The vineyards are planted at a high altitude (560 meters) and Mediterranean mountain climate.

From our own old vines, cultivated in the town of Canyada (Alicante).

Historical vineyards, planted in the 60’s, on sandy soils that provide fine and elegant wines.

It is a wine that transmits the personality of the old Alicante wines, with the proportion of indigenous varieties that have historically been cultivated in our territory.

Its elaboration process includes maturation in ceramic amphorae, made of clay from Villarrobledo cooked in old wood ovens.

Tasting and Pairing
 

Sight: Bright ruby color with violet hues.

Nose: It is very intense and fresh, transmitting all the varietal authenticity of the Monastrell, Arcos and Bonicaire.

Mouth: The purity of the fresh fruit stands out, with a light, velvety, fluid and persistent. It is a medium-bodied wine with very fine tannins.

Pairing: Especially for tapas (fried fish, salads) and rice dishes (paella, arròs al forn, rabbit and snail rice, arròs a banda, caldero…).

Service temperature: Between 14 – 16ºC

 

The Winery

 

In the 60s, the centenary Bodegas Ferrero, in the municipality of La Cañada (Alicante), ceased its activity and as a result the family has been inheriting generation after generation what was left of it, an incredible room of centenary barrels in extraordinary conditions of conservation that have been brought to the present day. A set of very old soleras, unaltered for more than 60 years.

This great collection of barrels houses classic dry fondillones. But also sweet wines, typical of the characteristic style of Alto Vinalopó.

In this sub-zone of the Alicante Denomination of Origin, dessert wines achieved great fame and popularity during the 19th century.
